Tips & Tricks to Escape an Escape Room Game
So it’s your first time experiencing an escape room or a seasoned vet where you want to have the best time at Room Escape Wizards. Here are some great tips that might help you in escaping and becoming the next great Room Escape Wizard!
Play with friends or coworkers
Whenever you play with people you know, you’ll have more fun and have a higher chance of escaping. So instead of letting strangers join your game where sometimes having strangers can make communication harder or the game less fun (especially if they don’t know what they’re doing), buy out the whole room or invite your friends to join. The odds of you escaping will greatly increase!
Sounds pretty basic I know, but sometimes you’ll be pretty surprised by how often you can overlook some obvious clues. So when you’re searching everywhere, it means EVERYWHERE. Be extremely through when you explore the room. And that includes, but is not limited to:
In (and under) containers
Inside books and book covers
Underneath tables and tablecloths
nestled on the top of a bookshelf
Tucked in an article of clothing
Work as a team
If you’ve been working on a puzzle too long and can’t figure out the solution, ask your fellow teammate for some help or if they can take over on the puzzle. By doing this, this ensures that the puzzle doesn’t get forgotten, and that there are enough eyes on each unsolved puzzle. If a few people can’t figure it out still, its usually a sign that you either need to find something to solve it, or you need to ask for a hint.
Use the obvious clues
See a random number or something that sticks out? Use it! Clues are there because they mean something. Try to find and use these clues early in the game because these will help you solve the first puzzle.
Don’t go in packs
At Room Escape Wizards, our rooms are designed to have multiple starting points. So try splitting up in smaller groups as you can explore the room more efficiently and faster.
Communication is key to getting out of the escape room as fast as possible. There will be times where you’ll find clues individually so you have to communicate with your teammates and figure out if they are connected or not. Without good communication and teamwork, you’ll spend more time on a puzzle than you should.
Manage your time
Be aware of how much time you have left because sometimes when you’re so into the game, you lose track of time. So if your group is stumped on a puzzle and you still have clues to use, use them! Conserving hints won’t do you any good if you can’t progress further in the game.
Put used clues/keys in their lock
Once you use a clue, it will no longer be needed for another puzzle. This applies to keys as well. Once you use the key, leave it in the lock for your sanity! This will help prevent the key from being used again, prevent someone else from trying out another key on the lock, and prevent you from accidentally locking the object again.
Use the clues to solve the puzzle and avoid brute force
Using force is not the answer because you’ll end up breaking things. Forcing things open or breaking things is bad for the escape game because it ruins the game sequence, functionality of the puzzle, and you risk player safety. Avoid forcing doors to open or detaching anything from the walls that don’t easily come off. Avoid climbing on furniture, or touching the ceiling. The game masters will usually brief you beforehand on what things you shouldn’t do.
Don’t be afraid to lose and have fun!
Escape room games can be challenging and hard but also a lot of fun. The game is a lot more fun when you solve puzzles genuinely and don’t rush chaotically to finish the game. We understand that these games can be hard, but are also simultaneously fun and immensely satisfying. Enjoy yourselves, and embrace the game and your friends, not the outcome, and you will have lots of fun here at Room Escape Wizards!
If however you do not finish within 60 minutes, our Game Host will always ask you whether you want us to walk you through the game to see what you could have done to escape.
